A vigilance investigation into the Sabarimala temple’s gold-plated coverings has revealed a significant reduction in weight, raising suspicions of theft and corruption within the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB).
This discovery has escalated into a prominent issue, leading to demands for a court-monitored Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and protests in the Kerala assembly. The Devaswom Minister affirmed the state government’s faith in the judiciary and commitment to strict action, while the Opposition has accused the government and TDB of attempting to conceal the incident, advocating for a CBI inquiry.
In response to these developments, the Kerala High Court has ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged gold theft, with a directive for the probe to be completed within six weeks.
