A recent convention for mining workers, affiliated with the All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC) through the Composite Mine Workers Union, was held at Ambedkar Bhavan in Sandur, Ballari district. The event was initiated by a rally where hundreds of mine workers marched, raising demands for job security and improved labor conditions.
During the convention, K. Somashekar, State President of AIUTUC, asserted that despite generating substantial wealth, mine workers endure challenging conditions and alleged that mining companies treat them as disposable. He also criticized new central Labour Codes, stating they aim to suppress workers' rights, and called for increased unity among workers.
Concurrently, AIUTUC State Secretary Somashekar Yadgir stated that efforts are consistently made by employers and governments to divide workers using social and political distinctions like caste, religion, and language, urging workers to overcome such tactics and strengthen their solidarity.
