The Rajasthan State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has upheld an order directing the State Bank of India (SBI) to refund Rs 1.60 lakh to a customer in Jhunjhunu. The amount was fraudulently withdrawn from the resident's account through cloned ATM transactions.
The commission found SBI to be deficient in service for its failure to act promptly after being informed of the fraud. While affirming the refund, the state commission granted partial relief to SBI by setting aside a previous award of Rs 25,000 for mental harassment.
SBI's defense, which alleged customer negligence, was rejected by the commission due to a lack of convincing evidence that the complainant had shared confidential payment credentials.
