The Indian men’s hockey team recently engaged in a strategic chess masterclass led by Prachura P Padakannaya, a co-owner of the American Gambits franchise in the Global Chess League. This initiative, which took place at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) campus in Bengaluru, was part of coach Craig Fulton’s efforts to broaden the team’s strategic thinking and decision-making capabilities.
During the session, Padakannaya drew correlations between chess and hockey, explaining how concepts such as player positioning in hockey mirror tactical moves in chess. The training aimed to foster clearer thought processes and enhance game-time decisions among the players.
Team members, including Manpreet Singh and Harmanpreet Singh, were present. Player Vivek commented on the session’s insightful nature, noting the clear connections established between the two sports.
