A recent meeting of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, led by Chairman Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre and member Sanjay Bandopadhyay, convened with various department officials to review the Chevella road accident and discuss broader road safety measures.
The Committee issued several directives aimed at improving road safety. These include verifying the fitness of all TGSRTC, other public transport, and commercial vehicles, with instructions to seize those found operating without valid fitness certificates. The Transport Department was specifically tasked with ensuring all vehicles in the state possess valid documentation, such as insurance papers and relevant permits. Furthermore, Mining and Transport department officials were directed to strictly enforce regulations preventing vehicles from carrying loads beyond permitted limits from quarries. The Committee also suggested the establishment of a dedicated Road Safety Fund by the State government.
In a separate development, the Road Transport Authority (RTA) reportedly booked three lorries for allegedly transporting loads exceeding permissible limits.
