Police in Surat, Gujarat, arrested prominent businessman Sameer Shah and his 19-year-old son earlier this week. The arrests occurred after authorities recovered a carton of liquor bottles from a vehicle located near a hotel where a birthday celebration for Mr. Shah was reportedly underway.
According to media reports, which cited Surat DCP Nidhi Thakur, police had received a tip-off concerning alleged liquor consumption at a high-profile party and alcohol being brought to the premises. A video of the incident, circulating on social media, depicted the 19-year-old son reportedly engaging with police personnel at the scene. Following the arrests, Mr. Shah and his wife were observed attempting to intervene with officers.
During the operation, authorities confiscated the liquor bottles, a mobile phone, and a car. Media reports further indicated that a breathalyser test administered to the 19-year-old confirmed he was not under the influence of alcohol.
