U.S. Military Conducts Strike on Suspected Drug Vessel in Pacific, Fatalities Reported

The U.S. military conducted a strike late Tuesday on a vessel suspected of drug smuggling in the eastern Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Colombia. An anonymous U.S. official reported that the operation resulted in the deaths of two or three individuals on board. This marks the eighth such strike known to have been carried out by U.S. Special Operations forces since September 2, when operations, initiated under President Trump's orders, began targeting individuals on suspected drug smuggling boats as if they were enemy combatants. The administration had previously acknowledged seven strikes, which reportedly caused 32 fatalities. The latest incident has not yet been officially announced by the administration, though it was earlier reported by CBS News.
