Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves has denied accusations of misleading the public regarding the condition of the nation's finances before her recent budget statement. Speaking in separate interviews with Trevor Phillips and Laura Kuenssberg, Reeves firmly stated she "of course" had not lied.
Her budget proposals have been met with strong opposition from Conservative minister Kemi Badenoch, who contended that the measures would make citizens "poorer" and characterized it as a "budget for benefits," calling for Reeves' resignation due to a "terrible" job performance.
The budget announcement itself was preceded by an incident where the Office for Budget Responsibility's (OBR) economic forecast became publicly available online approximately 40 minutes before Reeves presented her policies to the Commons. Despite this early release, Reeves reportedly appears to back the OBR chief.
