The United States, under President Donald Trump, has announced the imposition of an additional 100% tariff on all exports from China, which will raise the effective US tariff on China to 130%.
These new tariffs are scheduled to commence on November 1. President Trump stated the decision was prompted by what he described as “extraordinarily aggressive” new Chinese export restrictions on rare-earth minerals.
In response, China’s commerce ministry, via an unknown spokesperson, accused the United States of “double standards,” characterizing the move as a “typical example of ‘double standards’.”
The ministry asserted that the US actions have “severely harmed” China’s interests and “seriously undermined the atmosphere of the economic and trade talks between the two sides.”
Beijing also issued a warning, stating it would implement “corresponding measures” to safeguard its “legitimate rights” if the US “persists in its actions,” adding that “threatening high tariffs at every turn is not the right approach to engaging with China.”
