Former Minister and veteran Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader G. Sudhakaran participated in the commemoration of the 79th anniversary of the Punnapra-Vayalar uprising on Monday. At Valiya Chudukkad, near Alappuzha, Mr. Sudhakaran handed over a torch to mark the event.
His attendance occurred amidst recent reports of public statements and disagreements involving him and other party leaders. Earlier in the month, Mr. Sudhakaran had affirmed his continued membership in the CPI(M) and stated that no internal party issues existed. He attributed his prior remarks concerning Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian to what he characterized as an "un-Marxian" statement made by the latter through the press.
On the same Monday, Mr. Sudhakaran received an invitation to the inauguration of the Naluchira bridge. This invitation was described in reports as his first to a government function in several years; however, he did not attend the programme.
