The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the death of Assamese cultural icon Zubeen Garg, who passed away on September 18 while swimming off an island in Singapore, has received the viscera report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi.
A hospital-constituted committee is scheduled to study this viscera report and subsequently submit the final autopsy report to the SIT. Upon receipt, the SIT intends to present the complete report to the court and provide a copy to Mr. Garg’s family. The viscera samples were dispatched to the forensic lab after a second autopsy was performed at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, following an initial autopsy conducted in Singapore on September 19.
Authorities have indicated that a conclusion cannot be reached until the final autopsy report is available, addressing ongoing speculation, including reports of potential poisoning. Seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the death; among those identified are Mr. Garg’s cousin, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sandipan Garg, personal security officers Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya, and co-singer Amritprabha Mahanta. Additionally, the SIT has issued notices to 11 Singapore-based Assamese individuals who were present on a yacht during Mr. Garg’s final moments. India’s request for an investigation within Singapore is currently under processing by Singaporean authorities, as the SIT requires their approval and support to conduct inquiries in the country.
