Andhra Pradesh Details Comprehensive Urban Infrastructure Strategy

The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department of Andhra Pradesh has announced a Public Private Partnership (PPP) strategy aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure. This initiative projects an investment of ₹66,523 crore by 2029, distributed across 12 thematic areas, which include smart water systems, modern transport networks, and sustainable housing.

Suresh Kumar, a department representative, outlined several key components of the plan. These include the development of five smart cities featuring integrated IoT infrastructure, the upgrade of 2,500 kilometers of roads, the establishment of 15 new urban transit systems, and the implementation of green building norms to achieve 40% higher energy efficiency in new urban projects.

The state also intends to attract ₹35,000 crore in foreign direct investment (FDI) for eight new economic zones, which are anticipated to stimulate regional development and industrial growth. Furthermore, the department has proposed 33 additional PPP projects spanning sectors such as Waste-to-Energy, urban mobility, housing, tourism, and renewable energy. The strategy incorporates support from Government of India programs, including the Urban Challenge Fund amounting to ₹10,000 crore and the Credit Enhancement Initiative of ₹400 crore. The department stated that these efforts are designed to align infrastructure development with global standards and improve the urban living experience.
