During the Smart City Expo World Congress - 2025 in Barcelona, S. Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary for Municipal Administration and Urban Development of the Andhra Pradesh government, presented the state’s comprehensive urban transformation program. A key highlight was the detailed plan for sustainable inter-modal transport and trunk infrastructure within the Amaravati capital region.
The program outlines an integrated approach to urban development, encompassing transit-oriented development, circular economy principles, net-zero energy targets, and electric mobility. It also features advanced utility ducting and eco-friendly building practices, designed to position Andhra Pradesh as a global model for large-scale, public-private partnership (PPP)-enabled sustainable urbanization. Additional components discussed included a public transport backbone, life-cycle planning for utilities, and the formation of the A.P. Capital Region Unified Transportation Authority to streamline multi-modal planning and project implementation. Suresh Kumar stated that the plan's inherent sustainability and bankable PPP structures make it appealing for international collaboration.
