Delhi Police Apprehends Individual Who Allegedly Faked Death to Evade Arrest

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has announced the arrest of Virender Vimal, 42, in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, after he allegedly evaded capture for approximately three years by falsifying his death. Vimal was wanted in connection with four First Information Reports (FIRs) registered in 2020 at Bawana police station, which included charges of night-time burglaries at industrial and residential premises, as well as the possession of a stolen vehicle and an illegal firearm. To avoid non-bailable warrants issued in these cases, Vimal allegedly submitted a forged Municipal Corporation of Delhi death certificate to the court in 2021, falsely indicating his demise, which subsequently led to the abatement of ongoing criminal proceedings.

A renewed investigation, led by Police Inspector Satyender Poonia under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramesh Lamba, ultimately uncovered the fabrication of the death certificate. Authorities confirmed Vimal’s identity using the Crime Kundli application and Facial Recognition System, which matched his current photograph with existing police records. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Crime, Aditya Gautam provided details regarding the apprehension and the methods used in the investigation.
