A commissioner has determined that retailer Kmart breached Australians’ privacy by utilizing facial recognition technology in 28 of its stores. Kmart had previously stated that the technology was intended to address refund fraud.
Meanwhile, at the Australian National University (ANU), interim Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rebekah Brown confirmed that there will be no more involuntary redundancies and that the School of Music has been saved. Prof. Brown also stated she would not ask Chancellor Julie Bishop to resign, following a recent leadership crisis that saw the departure of a previous vice-chancellor. The interim Vice-Chancellor indicated an expectation for improved communication and management within the university moving forward, affirming a commitment to “do better.”
