The 87th birth anniversary celebration of M.M. Kalburgi in Dharwad will feature the presentation of two distinct awards. Scholar B.V. Sirur is designated to receive the Kalburgi Research Award 2025, while Hindustani vocalist Sujata Gurav Kammar will be honored with the Dr. Kalburgi Vachana Sangeet Award.
The Kalburgi National Memorial Trust is organizing the event, scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. at Alur Venkatarao Sabhabhavana. Scholar Hampa Nagarajaiah will officiate the awards presentation and release 40 volumes. Viranna Rajur, Chairman of the Trust, is slated to preside over the function, with Basavaraj Jagajampi attending as a guest.
Professor Sirur is recognized for his multidisciplinary research, encompassing Halegannada (Archaic Kannada), epigraphy, Vachana literature, and manuscript studies. Ms. Kammar, a vocalist of the Kiran Gharana of Hindustani classical music, holds a master’s degree and instructs at the Karnataka Arts College. She received early musical training from her father, Pandit Sangamesh Gurav, and her brother, Pandit Kaivalyakumar Gurav, and has performed at various music festivals nationally. A music concert by Ms. Kammar will follow the award ceremony.
