Reports indicate that the Indian team chose not to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council chairman and Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Subsequently, Mr. Naqvi reportedly departed with the trophy.
Player Tilak Varma recounted that the team waited on the ground for approximately an hour, anticipating the trophy's presentation, only to find it "nowhere to be found." The team ultimately celebrated using a mock trophy. Captain Suryakumar Yadav later clarified that the team's decision regarding the trophy acceptance was an independent one, not influenced by directives from the Government or the BCCI. He described the situation by stating, "we saw someone who was their representative taking the trophy and running away," in reference to the trophy's removal from the venue.
