Tirupati police have apprehended eight individuals suspected of involvement in an inter-state cybercrime operation. The arrests stem from a complaint by a 65-year-old Tirupati resident, who was allegedly defrauded of ₹80 lakh after being subjected to a "digital arrest" scam via video call.
According to police statements, the victim was convinced to transfer the substantial sum into multiple accounts under the pretext of a virtual investigation. A specialized police team traced the money across accounts in fourteen states, noting connections to users of gaming applications. Authorities have frozen ₹2.5 lakh found in two joint accounts associated with the case. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement actively pursuing an additional suspect from Hyderabad believed to be part of the criminal network.
