Multiple attacks occurred in Pakistan’s northwestern districts on Saturday, leading to the deaths of 20 security officials and three civilians. The Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP), identified as the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for these incidents via social media.
Specific incidents included the killing of eleven paramilitary troops in the Khyber district. In Dera Ismail Khan, a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at a police training school gate, followed by a gun attack, resulting in the deaths of seven police personnel and 13 injuries; six militants were also killed in this engagement. Additionally, a clash between militants and paramilitary troops in Bajaur district led to five fatalities, including three civilians.
The TTP is described as a group separate from, yet closely associated with, the Afghan Taliban. These attacks followed accusations by Afghanistan’s Taliban government that Pakistan had violated its sovereign territory. This week’s violence in the border regions has reportedly resulted in at least 32 Pakistani troops and three civilians killed, alongside dozens of militants. A military spokesman reported that from January 1 to September 15, more than 500 people, including 311 troops and 73 policemen, have died in such attacks.
