Five individuals, identified as Marian Cumpanasoiu (38), Remus Stan (35), Cristian Urlateanu (41), Catalin Dobre (45), and Alexandra Bugonea (35), have received prison sentences following their convictions for multiple charges of rape and sexual abuse. The High Court in Glasgow previously found the group guilty of 30 charges involving 10 women in flats across Dundee.
Cumpanasoiu, described as the group's leader, was sentenced to 24 years. Urlateanu received 20 years, Stan 12 years, Dobre 10 years, and Bugonea eight years. The convictions included various counts of rape for all five individuals: Cumpanasoiu (10 counts), Urlateanu (six), Stan (four), Dobre (two), and Bugonea (one), alongside an additional charge of illegal sexual activity.
Judge Lord Scott stated that the convicted individuals "exacerbated the vulnerability of the young women." Police investigations also revealed that vulnerable local women were targeted with inducements such as gifts and drugs, including crack cocaine. Cumpanasoiu was characterized as exhibiting a "predatory nature" towards women.
