Incident Near Serbian Parliament: Shooting and Fire Reported

An incident unfolded on Wednesday near the Serbian Parliament in Belgrade, involving a shooting that resulted in a man sustaining serious injuries and a brief fire. Authorities apprehended a suspect swiftly, stating that the attack was not linked to ongoing protests across Serbia. Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar confirmed the victim's serious condition.

In a televised address, President Aleksandar Vucic described the event as a "terrorist act" motivated by politics. He further stated that the alleged assailant poured gasoline inside a tent outside the parliament, shot the victim, and ignited a gas cylinder, causing an explosion and fire. Observers reported seeing black smoke emanating from the tent.

This incident occurred during a period of widespread demonstrations in Serbia. These protests, which began nearly a year ago following a deadly train station accident, have evolved to address public grievances concerning corruption and demands for President Vucic's ouster.
