India’s first dedicated facility for the conservation of the threatened nocturnal slender loris has been inaugurated in Ayyalur, Dindigul district. Established at a cost of ₹16.04 crore, the Slender Loris Conservation Centre aims to support long-term conservation efforts, scientific research, and public awareness regarding this small arboreal primate. The center’s opening follows the Tamil Nadu government’s earlier notification of the Kadavur Slender Loris Sanctuary, which spans over 11,800 hectares across Dindigul and Karur districts. The new facility includes an interpretation center, eco-trails, night observation points, and educational spaces, all designed to strengthen the conservation of the species and its dryland ecosystems.
