Inquest Confirms Cause of Death for Manchester Synagogue Attacker

An inquest has determined that Jihad Al-Shamie, the individual involved in an attack on Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester, died from multiple police gunshot wounds. The 35-year-old was reportedly shot on October 2 after approaching armed officers "aggressively" while carrying a knife and wearing what appeared to be a suicide belt.

The incident began at 09:30 BST when Al-Shamie drove a vehicle into the synagogue's gates and external wall, striking a security guard. He then attacked worshippers and security personnel with a knife before attempting to enter the synagogue while wearing a fake suicide belt. The attack resulted in the fatalities of Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, with three other men requiring hospital treatment.

During the inquest, which was opened and subsequently adjourned at Manchester Coroner's Court, details including CCTV footage of the events were presented. Al-Shamie was pronounced deceased at 16:38 BST, several hours after the shooting, due to initial concerns regarding the device on his body. A pre-inquest review has been scheduled for February 19.
