Following the Manchester synagogue attack, information has emerged concerning the perpetrator, identified as Jihad Al-Shamie. He is described as a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent.
Neighbors reported Al-Shamie rarely communicated with them. Observations included his varying attire, sometimes wearing Western clothes and at other times traditional Syrian dress, and his practice of exercising on benches.
The Al-Shamie family residence is believed to be situated in Langley Crescent, Prestwich. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated she was “surprised” by the attacker’s name. On LBC, presenter Nick Ferrari translated Jihad Al-Shamie as “struggle of the Syrian.”
