Delegations representing Israel and Hamas are scheduled to meet in Egypt on Monday to discuss a peace proposal for the Gaza Strip, initiated by former President Trump. The Israeli team is expected to include Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, while Hamas representatives will be Ghazi Hamad, Osama Hamdan, and Muhamed Darwish.

According to former President Trump, Israel has agreed to an initial military withdrawal line. This withdrawal, along with an immediate ceasefire and a hostage and prisoner exchange, is stated to become effective once Hamas confirms its acceptance. These developments are intended to create conditions for further withdrawals, leading to an end to the conflict. Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu has indicated that the military will redeploy within the territory.

The talks occur amid continued military engagement, with Israel reportedly taking a defensive posture in Gaza City, and Hamas reporting ongoing airstrikes and shelling resulting in casualties. While Trump has urged Israel to halt bombing Gaza to facilitate hostage release, a Hamas official, Abu Marzouk, noted that key provisions of the plan, particularly regarding Gaza’s future governance, require consultation with other Palestinian factions and could extend the finalization process over months. The conflict began in October with an attack on Israel from Gaza by Iran-backed Hamas. Arab nations have reportedly pressured Hamas to agree to the proposal, the full details of which remain largely undisclosed.
