Jamiat Leader's Discrimination Allegations Draw Political Rebuttal

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind chief Maulana Arshad Madani recently made statements alleging discrimination against Muslims in India, specifically citing ongoing investigations into Al Falah University related to the Red Fort blasts. At a session at the Jamiat headquarters, Madani contrasted the election of Muslim mayors in cities like New York and London with what he described as the difficulty for Muslims to attain positions such as university vice-chancellors in India, asserting that those who do risk incarceration, referencing Azam Khan. These remarks prompted a strong response from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized Madani's comments, accusing his organization of becoming an 'aatanki bachao jamaat' (save terrorists group) active in the name of vote-bank appeasement. Other BJP leaders, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, countered Madani's assertions by highlighting the history of Muslims holding high offices in India, such as President, Vice President, Chief Justice, and Home Minister.
