Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered a decisive bowling performance in the T20 World Cup semi-final against England, contributing significantly to India’s seven-run victory. This display, particularly his crucial 18th over, prompted considerable discussion and high praise from former England international pacers Steve Finn and Stuart Broad.
Broad, in particular, asserted that a “strong argument” could be made for Bumrah being the “best quick bowler ever.” Finn corroborated this sentiment, referencing an article he had previously penned for the BBC arguing Bumrah’s status as the best pacer, a view he noted had received fan pushback citing West Indies legend Malcolm Marshall. Broad concurred with Finn’s assessment, identifying Bumrah as the best bowler he has witnessed live, while also acknowledging other cricketing icons such as Richard Hadlee, Curtly Ambrose, and Glenn McGrath.
Bumrah’s pivotal contributions extended throughout India’s successful 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, culminating in him being named Player of the Tournament. This achievement marked him as only the second bowler in the tournament’s history to receive such an accolade.
