Broadcaster Jeremy Vine has provided court testimony regarding social media posts made by former footballer Joey Barton. Vine stated that Barton's online accusations, which included labeling him a "paedophile" and "nonce," subjected him to "physical danger" and made him feel "wickedly torn down for no reason."
The allegations reportedly originated in January 2024 when Vine responded to Barton's earlier posts on X. Barton had likened female football pundits Lucy Ward and Eni Aluko to serial killers, prompting Vine to question Barton's conduct by asking, "are we dealing with a brain injury here?" Barton's subsequent posts contained the accusations against Vine.
Joey Barton, 43, denies all charges. His representative, Simon Csoka KC, contended that Vine was "just trying to be provocative on Twitter to get in on this story."
