Jharkhand Mukti Morcha Cites Alliance Concerns in Decision Not to Contest Bihar Elections

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has announced its decision not to participate in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The announcement was made by JMM leader Sudeep Kumar Sonu in Giridih, coinciding with the closure of the nomination window for the second phase of polling. JMM leaders stated their decision was prompted by alleged failures by its INDIA bloc allies, the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), to uphold what they termed "coalition dharma."

This development follows an earlier indication by JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya that the party intended to contest six seats independently. JMM representatives recounted instances of their party's past support for the RJD in 2015 and accommodation of Congress, RJD, and Left parties in Jharkhand in 2024. They also asserted that promises of three seats made for the 2020 elections were altered at the last minute. Furthermore, JMM leaders claimed that recent assurances of seat allocations for the current elections, reportedly given by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on October 7 for 28 constituencies with significant tribal populations, did not materialize.
