Kerala Government's PM-SHRI Scheme Adoption Draws Congress Scrutiny

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala has drawn criticism from the Congress party following its decision to participate in the Centre’s PM-SHRI scheme. All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K.C. Venugopal alleged that this move is part of a broader pattern of compromises between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming the CPI(M) is diverging from its established principles.

Venugopal further stated that the Congress rejects the National Education Policy, which he contended introduces a "Sangh Parivar agenda" into educational syllabi. He also countered assertions that Congress-led state governments had implemented the scheme, noting its launch by a BJP-led government in Karnataka in 2021.

Concurrently, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunny Joseph urged the state government to resist aligning with what he described as the BJP's political agenda. Joseph also expressed doubt regarding the steadfastness of the Communist Party of India (CPI)'s opposition to the PM-SHRI scheme, hinting at internal discord within the LDF.
