The state of Kerala has suspended the sale and distribution of Coldrif cough syrup, joining Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in taking regulatory action against the medicine. This decision follows reports linking the cough syrup to the deaths of at least 11 children over the past month in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district and Rajasthan. The fatalities were allegedly associated with acute kidney failure after consumption of the syrup.
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has expanded its investigation into multiple drug manufacturing units across six states. Specifically, the manufacturing plant of Sresan Pharma in Tamil Nadu is currently under probe for potential contamination related to the product.
