The Madurai Agri Business Incubation Forum (MABIF), an initiative of NABARD and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), has inaugurated two new facilities at the Agriculture College and Research Institute, TNAU Campus, Madurai. These include a Product Promotional Centre (PPC) and a Geographical Indication Facilitation Centre (GIFC).
The PPC is designed as a venue for showcasing agricultural products from Tamil Nadu. The GIFC, funded by NABARD, is intended to promote products with Geographical Indication (GI) tags, enhance intellectual property awareness, and support the development of value chains for India’s agricultural heritage.
Both centers aim to provide a platform for startups, Farmers’ Producer Organizations (FPOs), and GI product manufacturers to display, market, and sell their products. Stated objectives include increasing direct income for farmers and FPOs by reducing intermediaries, and offering branding and market access for startups and innovators to foster rural entrepreneurship through GI-linked products.
