Manchester Synagogue Incident: Two Fatalities Confirmed

On Thursday morning at 9:31 AM, emergency services responded to an incident outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation, an Ashkenazi Orthodox synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester. A member of the public reported witnessing a vehicle being driven towards individuals and a stabbing occurring. Within six minutes, Greater Manchester Police declared a major incident, activating “Operation Plato” for what they classified as potential “marauding terrorist attacks.”

The incident resulted in the confirmed deaths of two individuals: 53-year-old Adrian Daulby and 66-year-old Melvin Cravitz. Both men were members of the local Jewish community residing in Crumpsall, north Manchester, an area known for having one of northern England’s largest Jewish populations. The synagogue was particularly busy as congregants gathered to observe Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish faith.

Regarding the individual involved, ITV reported that the person resided in Prestwich, approximately two miles from Crumpsall. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated that the individual, identified as al-Shamie, was not known to counter-terrorism police prior to the incident.
