A political disagreement has arisen in Mohali concerning the implementation of a housing scheme for economically disadvantaged families. Balbir Singh Sidhu, a former Punjab Health Minister and senior Congress leader, alleged that Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh (Aam Aadmi Party) is obstructing the construction of houses on plots allotted by the previous government in 2022. Sidhu accused MLA Singh of employing “intimidation tactics” against beneficiaries and characterized the ruling AAP government as “anti-poor” for allegedly stopping work on these legally allotted plots. Responding to these accusations, MLA Kulwant Singh refuted them as “baseless political theatrics” and “misinformation,” stating he had no interest in “credit wars” and challenged Sidhu to demonstrate his own contributions to housing for the poor during his 15 years as an MLA and minister.
