Mumbai’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has transitioned into the ‘moderate’ category, registering a reading of 139 at 5:30 am on Saturday, according to data from the Air Quality Early Warning System. This level, defined as ‘Moderately Polluted’ within the 101-200 range, indicates a potential for significant health impacts. The rise in air pollution is linked to the continued withdrawal of the southwest monsoon.
The upward trend in the AQI is primarily influenced by concentrations of Particulate Matter (PM) 2.5 and PM 10. The AQI scale categorizes air quality as Good (0-50), Satisfactory (51-100), Moderately Polluted (101-200), Poor (201-300), Very Poor (301-400), and Severe (401-500), with higher values signifying increasingly unhealthy conditions.
