The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is addressing complaints about the use of FASTag for parking payments at Delhi Airport. It was recently observed that vehicles without active FASTag were being denied entry to the arrival lane at Terminal 3 and redirected to the Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP).

This practice has led to vehicles exceeding the allocated 8-minute free waiting period. Officials clarified that FASTag is intended solely as a payment system and should not be employed to enforce entry restrictions.

An official stated that while FASTag functions as a payment instrument for airport parking, it is inappropriate for restricting access. The NHAI has taken note of this issue and instructed IDFC Bank, which manages operations at the airport, to ensure FASTag is used only for payment purposes and to cease its use for imposing entry limitations. Similar directives have been issued to other banks involved.
