Police in Munich have announced that the Oktoberfest venue is scheduled to reopen early Wednesday evening, after a temporary closure for an investigation into a potential bomb threat.
The threat was linked to a fatal house fire in northern Munich. A 57-year-old man is suspected of starting the fire, which involved explosives and reportedly stemmed from a family dispute. His body was later discovered at a nearby lake, reportedly carrying a backpack containing an “explosive device.”
Authorities had closed the annual festival for most of the day following the discovery of a letter from the suspect, which contained a “non-specific bomb threat relating to the Oktoberfest.”
