Religious Leaders Address Antisemitism and Public Conduct After Manchester Attack

Following an attack in Manchester, the UK’s Chief Rabbi, Sir Ephraim Mirvis, expressed significant concerns regarding public discourse and protests. He questioned the allowance of demonstrations that, in his view, contain “outright antisemitism” and “outright support for Hamas.” Sir Mirvis specifically cited the slogan “globalise the intifada” as being interpreted by many as a call to violence, linking its meaning to recent events. He also emphasized the role of faith leaders in promoting “harmony and peace” by advocating for responsible speech and encouraging control over public expressions of views.

Concurrently, Israeli President Isaac Herzog described the day as “horrific” for Jewish communities in Britain and globally. Speaking to LBC radio, President Herzog highlighted the incident as a “shocking reminder” of what he termed a “heatwave of antisemitism and anti-Jewish feelings” that, in his view, can ultimately lead to bloodshed.
