Continuous rainfall in Sholinghur, Ranipet district, led to two structural collapses on Wednesday. A 75-year-old woman, S. Annam Ammal, was safely rescued by neighbors after the tiled roof of her house in Esayanur village collapsed around 11:30 a.m. She was subsequently admitted to Government Taluk Hospital and reported to be stable. Around noon, the retaining wall of the Sri Yoga Anjaneya temple, approximately 15 feet high, also collapsed; no injuries were reported in this incident.
The wider region, including key towns such as Arakkonam, Arcot, Tiruvannamalai, Cheyyar, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ambur, and Arani, experienced persistent rain, resulting in the inundation of numerous low-lying areas.
In response to local issues, residents in two areas undertook public demonstrations. In Kodumampalli village near Tirupattur, residents planted saplings on pothole-ridden roads to highlight road conditions. Separately, in Ozur village near Amirthi Zoological Park in Vellore, residents blocked the Odugathur Main Road to protest against the non-removal of encroachments around local lakes.
