AIMPLB Postpones Nationwide Protest Against Waqf Amendment Act

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) announced on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, its decision to postpone a planned nationwide protest, or “Bharat Bandh,” originally scheduled for October 3, 2025. The protest aimed to oppose the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025. This decision followed an emergency meeting convened by AIMPLB president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, citing the convergence of religious festivals of other communities on the same date in several states as the reason for the deferral.

The AIMPLB clarified that while the “Bharat Bandh” is postponed, its broader protest movement against the Waqf Amendment Act remains active, with other planned programs proceeding as scheduled. New dates for the nationwide protest are expected to be announced soon. Previously, the “Save Waqf, Save Constitution” committee, operating under the Board’s supervision, had indicated plans for a “second phase” of protests. Mufti Omar Abedeen, co-convenor of the committee, conveyed a mixed reaction to a recent Supreme Court interim order, acknowledging positive aspects while also expressing disappointment with others.
