Telangana Waqf Institutions: Adopting the UMEED Digital Portal

Custodians and managers of waqf institutions in Telangana are in the process of adapting to the UMEED portal, a digital platform that mandates the uploading of waqf-related documents. This transition follows initial reluctance and confusion, prompting the Telangana State Waqf Board (TGWB) and other organizations to conduct awareness sessions.

These sessions are designed to educate mutawallis (managers) on the portal’s importance and the potential legal consequences of non-compliance. While some concerns remain regarding the new waqf amendment act and the UMEED portal, stakeholders are encouraging the digitization and submission of documents.

Significantly, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), despite expressing principled opposition to the UMEED portal, has decided to provide education to waqf managers on its operational aspects. The AIMPLB has appointed a convener to oversee workshops and public outreach initiatives focused on navigating the portal.
