VIT Chancellor Discusses Education's Role in Reducing Social Divisions

During an event organized by the Navalar-Sezhiyan Foundation and the Pavendar Bharathidasan Tamil Literary Forum at the VIT campus in Vellore, VIT Chancellor G. Viswanathan asserted that advances in education and economic development are instrumental in diminishing caste and religious divisions within the country. He highlighted Tamil Nadu as an illustrative example, noting its per capita income of $5,400, which he contrasted with lower figures in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, to demonstrate the impact of socio-economic progress. Viswanathan attributed Tamil Nadu's significant strides in these areas post-independence to the emergence of the Dravidian movement, spearheaded by leaders such as Periyar and Annadurai, which he stated consistently championed the rights and culture of Tamil Nadu. MDMK leader Vaiko, also present, discussed the formation of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) by Annadurai, reiterating Annadurai's ongoing commitment to the principles of Dravidar Kazhagam.
