West Bengal Legislator's Mosque Construction Plans Stir Political Debate

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir has publicly claimed to have laid the foundation stone for a "Babri Masjid" in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, further stating his intent to commence construction on December 6, the anniversary of the original Babri Masjid's demolition. Kabir justified his plan by referencing a Supreme Court directive on mosque construction in Ayodhya and asserting it as his constitutional right, while also distinguishing between mosques built by Muslims versus non-Muslims regarding sanctity.

This declaration has ignited a political controversy in the election-bound state, drawing sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). BJP State President Samik Bhattacharya characterized Kabir's remarks as an attempt to turn "West Bengal into West Bangladesh," expressing concern over such statements.
