The recent Asia Cup cricket match between India and Pakistan has drawn criticism from Priyadarshani, the widow of a victim of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Speaking from her residence in Balasore, Odisha, Priyadarshani stated that the decision to proceed with the match was akin to “rubbing salt on the wounds” of those who lost loved ones and suggested it could be perceived as financially assisting Pakistan. Her husband, Prashant Satpathy, 43, was among 26 civilians killed in the attack in south Kashmir while on vacation.
In response to the criticisms, BJP MP and former sports minister Anurag Thakur clarified that India’s participation was due to its commitment to an ICC-organized multinational tournament, emphasizing that non-participation would result in forfeiture and a loss of points for the team.
