Assam Congress Seeks Tax Exemption for Zubeen Garg's Posthumous Film

Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi has formally requested the state government to grant tax-exempt status to Roi Roi Binale, the final feature film starring and co-produced by the late cultural icon Zubeen Garg. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 27, 2025, Mr. Gogoi cited Garg's lifelong commitment to elevating Assam’s cultural heritage and the desire to ensure the film's widespread accessibility as reasons for the proposal. Zubeen Garg, who played the lead role of a blind artiste in the film, passed away on September 19 at the age of 52.

Scheduled for release on October 31, Roi Roi Binale, directed by Rajesh Bhuyan, has reportedly generated substantial public interest. Production team members have indicated that all first-day tickets for 90 screens across Assam have been pre-booked, leading cinema halls to add early morning shows to accommodate demand.
