Deng Chol Majek, identified as an asylum seeker, has been found guilty of the murder of 27-year-old hotel worker Rhiannon Whyte. The conviction followed a two-week trial conducted at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Ms. Whyte sustained 23 stab wounds inflicted with a screwdriver at Bescot Stadium railway station in Walsall in October 2024, and died three days later. Evidence presented by prosecutors indicated that Majek followed Ms. Whyte from the hotel where she was employed and where he resided, to the railway station. CCTV footage reportedly captured Majek's movements to and from the scene.

Throughout the trial, Majek maintained his denial of the charges, asserting that both the CCTV and DNA evidence presented were incorrect. The court was informed that 11 of the stab wounds penetrated Ms. Whyte's skull, with one severing her brain stem. Further evidence included footage reportedly showing Majek dancing at the hotel less than 90 minutes after the attack. Details regarding Majek's arrival in the UK by small boat on July 29, 2024, were also presented. While Majek claimed his age to be 19, prosecutors estimated he was in his mid-20s. The victim's family, including her sister Alexandra Whyte, conveyed the profound impact of her death.
