BJP Leader Jahanzaib Sirwal Threatens Resignation Over Uttar Pradesh Developments

Jahanzaib Sirwal, a Jammu and Kashmir BJP leader, announced on Friday, October 3, 2025, his intention to resign from the party. He stated that his decision stems from concerns regarding remarks attributed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the actions of the state police in Uttar Pradesh.

Sirwal contended that the situation in Uttar Pradesh diverges from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’. He specifically criticized what he described as “baseless legal actions, a heavy-handed crackdown, and divisive threats,” advocating for impartial investigations that hold all wrongdoers accountable, rather than selectively targeting a single community. Sirwal indicated that he would have no alternative but to resign if the BJP leadership did not take steps to restore confidence among Muslims, asserting that every faith should be able to flourish without fear.

He further emphasized that the Muslim community would not yield to threats or permit their reverence for the Prophet to be “criminalized.” As a Muslim BJP leader, Sirwal expressed that he could not remain silent when he perceived his community’s rights were being disregarded and when state actions risked compromising the party’s commitment to unity. He urged the BJP leadership to act decisively by quashing what he termed “unjust FIRs,” releasing individuals detained for what he described as “peaceful expressions,” and retracting statements that contribute to discord. Sirwal concluded by advising Muslims to pursue justice through dialogue, democratic processes, and unwavering faith.
