An Emirates-operated Boeing 747 cargo aircraft, flight EK9788, overran the runway and subsequently crashed into the sea during an attempted landing at Hong Kong International Airport. The incident occurred early Monday morning, approximately 3:50 AM local time, as the aircraft was arriving from Dubai.
The event resulted in the deaths of two airport security personnel. Their vehicle was reportedly struck by the 32-year-old aircraft and pushed into the water. All four crew members onboard the cargo plane were successfully rescued.
Following the incident, the airport's northern runway was closed, while the central and southern runways remained operational. The fatalities were confirmed by the Airport Authority Hong Kong in a press briefing.
