Brazil has initiated three weeks of events associated with the COP30 climate summit, with the primary leaders' summit scheduled for November 6-7 in Belem. The host country's objective is to highlight continued global efforts to address global warming, while business leaders are emphasizing clean energy policies as a strategic priority for economic and energy security.

This iteration of the summit takes place 33 years after the Rio Earth Summit, which established the initial United Nations treaty on climate change. Attendance by world leaders for the Belem summit is anticipated to be the lowest since 2019, with fewer than 60 confirmations received by the Brazilian presidency as of Saturday. This contrasts with the over 54,000 attendees at COP29 and nearly 84,000 at COP28. Despite this, Brazil expects over 45,000 attendees across all COP30-linked events, with significant participation observed at finance-focused gatherings in Sao Paulo and a local leaders' summit in Rio, involving numerous business leaders and mayors engaged in showcasing and accelerating climate action.
