India is actively pursuing a deeper economic partnership with Canada, with a particular focus on enhancing collaboration in critical minerals, clean energy, and emerging technologies. This initiative aims to diversify global supply chains and establish secure technological ecosystems for both nations.

Following a period of stalled discussions, trade negotiations have been revitalized through an agreement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during the G7 Summit. Subsequent visits by senior Canadian ministers to India have contributed to rebuilding trust and momentum in bilateral engagement.

Officials emphasize the shared democratic values underpinning the India-Canada relationship. Current bilateral trade figures indicate a slight deficit for India, with total exports to Canada at $4.22 billion and imports at $4.44 billion in FY25. India's imports from Canada primarily include critical minerals, nuclear and clean-energy equipment, aerospace components, and agricultural products such as lentils.
